February 25, 2008 - Founded in 1967, the Dallas Stars were playing as the Minnesota North Stars prior to 1993 in Bloomington, Minnesota. The team was purchased by the Gund Brothers, who also owned the Cleveland Barons. The NHL allowed the merge between the two franchises while retaining the name of Minnesota North Stars.
The merge brought a team of great players together that went on to the Stanley Cup finals in 1981, but lost to the New York Islanders. When the area started losing interest in the team, they requested to be relocated again to the San Francisco Bay Area, but were denied.
Their next and final move was in 1993, when Norman Green (one of the owners of the team) moved them to Reunion Arena in Dallas, Texas. This was where they were renamed to simply the Stars. The team was then sold after the 1994 playoffs to Tom Hicks who is still the current owner of the team.
In 1999, the team won its first Stanley Cup against the Buffalo Sabres in six games.
